| Not all floors can be
glued. Most people choose floating floors because
they are much easier to install. Floating floors
have a tendency to sound hollow or make more noise
when walking, unless a higher quality underlayment
is chosen. On the other hand, hardwood floors
glued down will sound and feel more solid because
they are attached to the floor and do not float.
Floating floors require a
padding that is installed before the actual
hardwood floor itself. Manufacturers have many
different names but the more common ones are 3-1
or three in one underlayment. Most floating floors
today do not require gluing to keep the boards
together as in the past. They are installed by the
click, snap or lock together method.
Glue down hardwood floors
should be left up to a professional providing he
knows what he is doing. The adhesives used can
cause disastrous results if you don't know what you're doing
and can spread everywhere. |
