Kitchen Cabinets First Or Hardwood Flooring?

Kitchen cabinets first or hardwood flooring is probably one of the most often asked questions when it comes to new hardwood installations in those areas. Many experienced installers and hardwood specialists will tell you absolutely cabinets first. Unfortunately some builders don't want to hear the hardwood guy's opinion. Instead many only care about their production schedule.

Looked at in a realistic manner, by installing cabinets first you eliminate the potential damage that will be caused by the installation of cabinetry. Sure, you can cover up the floor well enough thinking if they do drop something it will be well protected. Unfortunately the single most item that causes the most damage in this scenario is loose screws during the cabinet installation. The cabinet guy may indeed be an expert at what he does, but too often screws get lost and find their way underneath any protective covering.

On the other hand, some may consider what will happen if they decide to remodel their kitchen at a later date. By installing the kitchen cabinets on top of the flooring you will not be faced with a situation that requires knowledgeable installers to fix by weaving or tying in at a later date.
