Over the years I've offered things to you guys as a method to thank you for your participation, but no takers.

Sure there's a catch. You have to have a website.

What I plan. Rotating banners on a weekly basis. So it would look like this. Those that have more than 200 posts will get featured once a week. It will look something like this...

Considering Perry is batter #2...Oh no.... his site isn't working well. Fix than man! Yea you'll be included but I don't like the mugshot pic in a banner.

To Jerry...#3

Image

Banners would replace the one you see for HardwoodInstaller.com. The one above is a quickie draft.

Gotta do something for Gary though..he's the star of the show. Man get a website dude! A blog will work. Pretty simple and don't say you don't have the time. You've written 50 good sized blogs with all the information you've provided here.

Name with # of posts.

1 Gary 4151
2 Floorguy 3169
3 Jerry Thomas 1129
4 Ken Fisher 888
5 ChuckCoffer 704
6 dennis 660
7 Ray Darrah 572
8 KevinD 447
9 Exquisite Flooring 346
10 Barquios 299
11 kls 290
12 jclivzinme 280
13 floormeintucson 262
14 SK Olson 242
15 Floorologist 227

Whewre did many of these guys go to?

Sure there's a catch. Your website has to link to hardwoodinstaller from your home page
I'll explain in PM messages.

Comments? Suggestions?

I think it's an excellent idea !

I dont have an installation site, just the strap clamp site, and I think that banner wouldn't look right in the forum.

Would you consider showing my strap clamp banner in another location ? If you dont have a spot I would still like to post this banner on my site, if you like.

Can I assume you have seen the site I'm referring to? I presently link back and forth with ebay, run an ad in FCI Magazine, and have a banner on http://www.installingwoodfloors.com

Keith and I will figure something out Howard. Oh, he doesn't know about this yet :o

Maybe I'll set up a banner at the link below instead. It ranks #1 on Google for "hardwood floor strap clamps"

http://www.hardwoodinstaller.com/hardwo ... clamps.htm

The banner would be linked to your website. Click Jerrys above. FI.com requires a log in. Nobody will go through the trouble. It's a pain in the ass.

Get a site.

Find a domain

http://www.godaddy.com

use their start a domain search tool

I found a few good Tucson domains that would work. You want preference "location" and "type of work" in the domain name.

Tucsonazflooring.com is one

Put it on something easy like wordpress.

http://wordpress.org/- requires download for their functions.

Your son has been talking about it for how long?

You've been talking about it for how long?

SP you can even make it work :o :o :o :o :o :o

Ok so I didn't do it today it was a holliday and spent it with the wife buying flowers and plants and herbs for the garden.

But really Ken. Do people with websites really generate that much more business than your regular advertising in DEX or CL or SM dollar for dollar? I have talked to ppl who have had websites and they paid out the waszoo for them. Course they didn't do it themselves like you suggested for 15 bucks amonth.

Having a website get hits and listed on the first page of a google search takes time and money. If your busy do you have time? If not busy do you have the money?

My thoughts is they are over rated for a person like myself. I get calls every other day from ppl wanting me to pay them to do a webaite for me and I ask them why? Why when I can generate the same amount of leads from CL for free or SM for 28 bucks a pop.

Speak to me ole wise ones wh ohave websites.

Stephen, Have you seen my cheesey website I popped up there with just playing with a website creator program for a few hours.

It pulls in clients and it is the most bogus website I have seen.

Hey if Perry's site gets work...more below

And they probably get nill traffic too. All too common with sooooo many websites.

Problem is most will hire people that have a design background. They're drawn to the colorful designs, pretty pictures, cool looking functions, etc. Unfortunately that's the worst kind of web guy you want. They often don't know anything else. Remember they're designers. What do we say about interior decorators? They're designers and almost clueless. They experiment with new ideas. Same thing with web designers.

There's a saying in the real web community. Ugly sites work. I think hardwoodinstaller.com is ugly. I've wanted to change it. In fact I spent three months on a re-design last spring. On occasion I get together with a guy in Tampa that knows all the angles with websites and he said..."why fix what's not broken..ugly sites work"

I heard that many times over but I was tired of my ugly site. After two weeks I called him and said he was right.

I keep hawking on guys (not only installers) to do sites from time to time. Maybe I should just give it up. I think it's more along the lines of "what does this guy know about websites compared to ones that do it for a living?"

Oh, I kind of do it for a living...but I don't have an official shingle hanging.

Build a cheesy site. It works..look at Perry

Didn't answer that one. Ummm

It's getting tougher with google local business listings showing when people search location and topic. Most sites aren't seen unless you scroll. Many don't scroll...want the result right away...impatient. But if you take another term for example.

"concrete grinding Tucson"

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rlz= ... f&oq=&aqi=

Two real sites (stupid directory) are now seen, at least in my browser 1600 x 900. It's not as competitive as "hardwood floors Tucson." I could knock the first two free listings out. First you need a blog/site with an article on the same topic...with location. It's a start.

I kinda like the idea, but this site is almost globally oriented, and our web-sites are generally more locally focussed so I don't know that all this work on your part would bear any fruit for the members on this site.

Of course, three days in Atlantic City; all amenities provided by you (including the dancing girls) might work.

Thanks Dennis:

I've been baffled over the years why my invitations never go far. It's no trouble for me, I have nothing else to do.

Website traffic is very weak ...but it's sumthin' for practically nuttin'

Jan 1 to Oct 14

US- 38,000
Canada- 12,000
UK- 624

not very accurate because we didn't have the website tracking code on many pages between Feb and Aug. Adding about 40% more may be more accurate. Keith may have better numbers from the other site stat thingie.

Atlantic City? I'd love to fall off the wagon for a week
