I have talked to ppl who have had websites and they paid out the waszoo for them
And they probably get nill traffic too. All too common with
sooooo many websites.
Problem is most will hire people that have a design background. They're drawn to the colorful designs, pretty pictures, cool looking functions, etc. Unfortunately that's the worst kind of web guy you want. They often don't know anything else. Remember
they're designers. What do we say about interior decorators? They're designers and almost clueless. They experiment with new ideas. Same thing with web designers.
There's a saying in the real web community. Ugly sites work. I think hardwoodinstaller.com is ugly. I've wanted to change it. In fact I spent three months on a re-design last spring. On occasion I get together with a guy in Tampa that knows all the angles with websites and he said..."why fix what's not broken..ugly sites work"
I heard that many times over but I was tired of my ugly site. After two weeks I called him and said he was right.
I keep hawking on guys (not only installers) to do sites from time to time. Maybe I should just give it up. I think it's more along the lines of "what does this guy know about websites compared to ones that do it for a living?"
Oh, I kind of do it for a living...but I don't have an official shingle hanging.
Build a cheesy site. It works..look at Perry
