Hey
I am looking to puchase my own sander (drum) could you guys give me some advise and direction where I may want to look to make this purchase at? I would also consider a remanufactured machine if you know where one would be.
Some advise on the size and volt would be helpful. I see where they say a 220 volt machine is better , but how do most people get 220V in a home without getting into the breaker panel? Can an adapter be made up to use the range or dryer supply?

sounds like you need to do some homework before you buy. i would highly reccomend a belt machine over a drum for starters. A 220 machine is much heavier, agressive, productive, expensive and more suited for professional use. One good place to look for used equipment is floorstyle products and another is harverster in N.J. both repair and sell used equipment. There is always stuff on ebay but you know how much of a pig in a poke that can be. Lastly a 220 does not and really should only be hooked str8 into the panel by someone who is a electrician through a breaker. The most effetive way to address is to make several short pig tails that have the correct plug for you sander cord on one end and whatever dryer/range plug neccesary on the other. Dont be a cheap ass and file all the plug blades down so they fit and just cram em in the plug. hope this helped.

Right now, K&T Professional 8" Floor Belt Sanders are on sale for $4,250.00 brand new. An excellent sander at a great price. PM me and I'll tell you were to go and buy one. Or just do a Google search. Another option for a little more is a Lagler Hummel, a favorite among pros. Used is always an option if you feel comfortable with that. However, parts and repairs are expensive. If you buy used, buy from a reputable distributor or dealer who will warranty the sander.

Thought I'd share this scary beast picture, as I was shopping for a friend yesterday at http://www.floorstyle.com/

I wonder how many fingers, toes... were lost using these antiques?

YIKES! A chain driven drum! I'd hate to be in that room when a link breaks.
