We just moved into our house which is somewhere near 100 years old. My son had an "accident" and after scrubbing up his mess, the true hardwood was revealed.

Anyway I have no idea what type of wood this is nor how I should refinish it. Any ideas?

its a pine floor. looks line good old yellow pine. it needs a full refinishing. resanding is a not really for the everyday handyman. Id suggest getting online calling some local guys and get a few different quotes then making the call.

I will follow your advice about calling a contractor. The floors are very dull and pretty dark. My wife
and I were hoping that the floors could be refinished to something pretty light in color.

A quick look online shows that yellow pine can be very light indeed.
