I will be refinishing a Red Oak floor in the near future and am wondering if there is any way to lessen the impact of some black/dark streaks in the floor. It appears to be common #1 Red Oak.

Can I stain just the darker part, or bleach/dye it somehow? Maybe I am an idiot for asking this question, but just wondering if I have an options to lessen the impact of dark streaks.

Thanks in adavance....

Sounds like common mineral streaking, that has been there since the floor was installed.

But I could be wrong.

Floorguy, you are correct, that is what it is - I could not come up with the proper terminology.

Is there any known way to minimize them, as there are a few spots where it would be nice to "tone" them down a bit.

Thanks
