I'm at my wits end and could use some help. I decided to go with Last n Last 700 for my finish on stained white oak flooring. I applied it as instructed by the manufacturer with a t-bar and synthetic applicator and each time I get stripes in the floor left by the applicator. I called the company a couple of times, but they're unable to help. Today I even tried rolling it on (which they advised me not to do) and that didn't turn out well either. The temperature is in the 70's, applicator is new, keeping a wet edge - I think I'm doing everything correctly. At this point, I'm thinking it is the product and am thinking of putting something over it if possible. Can anyone help?

Thanks!

There's nothing wrong with the product...I sue it often..it a great product..

I cant tell you what you are doing wrong, but I can tell you , you are doing something wrong.. a few pics may reveal..it may be to heavy or too thin an application..you may be overworking the finish or not leveling out the finish after you spread it.

What do you mean by "level out the finish"? After pulling the t-bar down a line, I leave it alone - afraid to overwork it.

Thanks for your help!

I mean it needs t be leveled off sometimes..when you first start off, your wet edges can be a little heavier at the end of the TBar applicator pad and leave a "ridge" for lack of a better term..this will often times dry that way giving the appearance of a shinier and more covered look in those areas..I am guessing the "stripes" as you call them are approx the width of the T bar..

after you make 2 or 3 passes..stop..ring out the excess finish on the pad by sponging it against the floor...with the grain is better..squeeze the finish out..step back at look at your finish...feather it off where needed..dont go crazy..you are just leveling and making smooth..not trying to work it too much.. a simple feather off pass should be good..

your finish should now dry ok..

They are about width of the t bar. The finish looks fine as I apply it, then as it dries I get the stripes. They seem to be areas that less of a gloss (I'm using semi-gloss) than the rest of it and they are lower. Almost like the applicator pushes too much finish out at those spots, leaving lines that have less.

try a new pad...maybe it is dented or something..but still sounds like a rate of coverage/leveling issue..

usually these things would be heavier at these points..

All you need to do to avoid this is to wring out the applicator after each run down a room. Then go back over each and every run. If you need to pick up and set the applicator back down for any reason, be sure to wring it out each time.

So pull the applicator the length of the room, ring it out, then go over that row again? Do you do a few rows then go over to blend together? Thanks!
