Hi all, I got some strip trim moldings made of oak wood from HD to use as transition moldings between hardwood flooring (that I am gonna put down) and adjoining vinyl. The strip has pre-drilled holes for 1.5" screws (provided). They have to fixed on the hardwood side and would have to attached within 1/2" of the hardwood ends. My question is, since they are so close to the ends, do I need to be careful about anything special. I would be drilling pilot holes. Also, should I get longer screws, say 2.5" as like the nails that I would using for installing hardwood?

After attaching, I would stain the same. I would be using blue tape to cover the hardwood and vinyl side from the stain. Any better tape to use than the blue one?

Thanks a lot....

Sounds like the right plan to me :D But it sounds like a door threshold. Reducers work in this scenerio. Most prefinished manufacturers offer them with their product lines. With unfinished floors they're usually made on the job site(from the flooring) by installers with the use a table saw.
