The wifey decided to rub this oil over a finish that was oil suppose to be washed with soap and water. (aluminum oxide over 3/4" maple scraped)
I was told that mineral spirits would bring it up without damaged the finish. Anyone? It about 400 sq ft. It has caused quite a stir between us and I need to get it resolved. I have some extra boxes of the stuff and was going to experiment. Thank you for any help, DM

Not that much oil there and min spirits cuts it. Went back over with dawn/water solution. Guess it's a starting point as I only did as small area. After 7 yrs the area has lost its luster, so really don't see much of a difference. We'll do the entire area this way and then try to find a product to buff up the shine. Dm (aluminum oxide finish being urethane)

Are you talking to yourself and if so what is it you are asking and answering yourself?

I have no clue

Really? Hmmm, well the question is at the beginning. And I quoted myself with what I'm doing about it.

I came here for professional help. Don't screw around with me if you're not going to help. It's clear that I'm asking if it's ok to get this oil off my prefinished floor, using mineral spirits.

Sorry about that DM. Chances are the two guys that responded haven't dealt with such an issue, or at least the boiled linseed oil. Be careful with any products that promise improving the shine as they're probably only temporary and can cause more problems..

Thorough cleaning and applying the Tycote product is one avenue you should look at.

I also think this next video dealing with proper floor cleaning gets to some points you won't see. It's quite long but very detailed, accurate, and unbiased.
