I am new to this site so I hope that I am posting this to the correct forum. We have Brazilian cherry hardwood flooring throughout our first floor. Now I am replacing our carpeted stairs and carpeted second floor with Brazilian cherry treads, risers and flooring.

I am also replacing our newel posts, balusters and railing, but am reluctant to go with Brazilian cherry here due to the cost. Is there a wood that someone could recommend I use that can be stained and look good with the Brazilian cherry flooring combination? I am struggling with this one!

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!!

you're best bet to match (as I'm sure you know) is to use Brazilian Cherry. Nothing else will match, even with a stain. The color and graining will be different. Furthermore, it will cost you more in the future when you need to resand/restain. Near alternatives, such as santos mahogany, would be similar or more expensive so you might as well match.

Alternative, and I don't know how much this costs, you could get what's very stylish now - a wrought iron banister w/ brazilian cherry insets. That way, you match and it looks great. I don't know about the cost.
