We installed 3-5/8 x 3/4 Brazilian Teak flooring in 2009 and it looked amazing. We had a house fire in 2014 and the insurance companies contractor has found the hardwood and choose to go with 5" x 3/4" planks.
The wood arrived 13 days ago and we opened the boxes and laid them out on the floor. The humidity was 35%. Heat was running as we live in Chicago suburbs. The install is on plywood subfloors above ground and we are installing just under 3000 sqft. The planks will be glued and nailed every 6". The contractor started the install today so the wood had plenty of time to acclimate.
The manufacture that stamp there name on the boxes was Elof Hansson, Premium 5" Brazilian Teak 3/4" solid - Natural - EHP5Btn20 WO# 12107/BOZ

We stopped by the house and noticed that there are gaps in the wood. The contractor pointed out the ends of the planks are not all 90 degrees and the width of all the planks vary 1/16". They also showed us that they through out a box worth because of the variations. We immediately had them halt the install and made them contact the distributor. Attached are links to the pictures of the gaps. I was able to put dimes in some of the gaps.
The distributor came to the house and took some planks to send to the manufacture and then offered us a discount just to use the wood.
Any suggestion on how we should proceed or if this is common with 5" teak planks? Did anyone else have similar issues?

Below are links to the pictures I took.

Thanks for any advice

Jason

It's a milling issue...the materials needs to be replaced..its not the fact that's its Brazilian teak..its the fact the mill did a poor job..never heard of the material you are using.

issue like these occur frequently with materials purchased form Lumber Liquidators.

It could be out of square also, hard to tell from the pics but 5" is easy to get crooked fast. Get a string out and see if its straight first. Cumaru/ braz teakis one of the most difficult flooring material to acclimate properly. It likes to shrink quite a bit also you will need some micrometers and a good moisture meter to properly evaluate the floor. Has anyone bothered to take a moisture reading of the wood and subfloor? If that floor is as dry as the air you better be careful of summer expansion.
