Hi -- I have waxed hardwood floors (vs. polyurethane finished) that are 27 years old. They are in decent shape and the grain is beautiful, and when waxed are great looking (certainly is a pain wax all 1100 sq. ft.). They are 1/8 inch beveled, prefinished. But where rugs have laid -- particularly braided rugs, the color has lightened alot around the edges as if the stain has been sucked out of the wood. Is there are way to 'lightly' refinished them without sanding down? Thanks.

If you would like to add some color you can apply a coat of colored shellac.
Shellac will stick to floors that have traces of wax left after a good cleaning.
A little alcohol dissolved color mixed into the shellac will help approach the color.
Do a sample in a corner of the room. If it is not dark enough ad more color. It can take some time for the powdered color to mix. Strain it so the color that doesn't dissolve is separated. If too dark, use denatured alcohol to remove the fresh shellac.
