I have a client that has a maple floor that was done about 7 years ago with semi-gloss or gloss Bona Traffic. The floor has held up really well, so she just wants it recoated. My problem is she wants a satin finish. Will the gloss show through a satin finish? If so is there a way to recoat with a satin finish? I thought maybe a sanding sealer first, but I am really not sure. Please advise. Thanks

Satin will do, just fine . . . follow your standard recoat instructions on the container,
and you'll do "ok" dan @ pro

The new coat of Satin will completely cover and negate the semi gloss. If the floor was done 7 years ago with traffic, it has to be semi gloss since Bona just made the gloss traffic available recently.Sheens are completely determined by the top coat.

Paul, thanks for the advise. I just worried about it because traffic is so hard and hard to abrade. This makes me confident in doing the job. It is over 2000 square foot recoat, so its a pretty good job. Thanks again

You're welcome. You can buff the traffic with a disc buffer of course. I'd recommend using 3M stickit 240 grit tape in that case unless you have your own system.

But even better than that is the clarke OSB 18 square buffer. Lots of places rent these. They suck for sanding a floor but do the best job of abrading between coats. It works so well that i bought one just for re coats and use my 16" disc buffer for bare wood operations.

ON oil , I use a 220 grit screen but on traffic you can even drop down to a 150 grit screen as long as you don't cross grain. Traffic is so hard that the 150 will break down pretty quickly. For 2000 feet, you might need 3 or possibly 4 screens. If in doubt, go with 220 grit.

I think I will rent a square buffer. That seems like it will work good. Thanks again
