I acquired a cat a year ago and I have recently been faced with my cat throwing up hair balls and the bile from that has stained my white carpet. I have been looking into having prefinished engineered floors put down and now I am wondering if the bile from the cat throw up will hurt the finish of the prefinished floor. It could possible be on the floor all day while I am at work. I don't know what to do.

Most modern prefinished floors are quite stain resistant. Cat vomit should not hurt the finish. Best to clean up as soon as possible. However, this does not apply to a waxed finished floor. Be sure to buy a floor with a polyurethane type finish.

I have run across this a few times on site finished floors. Belive it or not but the type of cat food you feed them is a big part of the solution. Those full of pigment and dyes are the worst for staining a wood floor when thrown back up. Stay away from the bright red and yellow ones and the stains will be far less problematic.
