I have seen that before. I am aware of a brand of flooring that has exhibited this same problem on exotic prefinished solids. I will PM you the brand name.

Jerry,

I wouldn't mind a PM as well. I sent off for a sample of brazillian cherry from a manufacturer that I won't mention here.

They sent me samples that had hairline cracks in the top.

Not a good first impression when you're considering spending 3000-4000 on flooring.

What brand was it that you used. I have the same problem and had them fixed. They glued down. Now today I found some new ones this is really getting me angry. The floor is not even 1 month old. Some of the pieces were bad from the box and might have been installed. Careless installers. Not sure if some happened after the install. Is there any other way of replacing the pieces with glue to attach. Any tips or suggestions appreciated.

cbr400rr, was the flooring brought in early to acclimate? Was any moisture testing done on the flooring and substrate?
What is the substrate?

The basement is plywood, the rest of the floors are waffle board. Not sure of the moisture thing. The wood was left in my house for couple of days before install.

Thought you might want an update. The inspector came in last Monday and saw the problems. He asked that I check the floor each day this week for more cracks and let him know. There are more cracks showing up each day.

Will let you know the final verdit once the inspector finalizes his report on Monday and the distributor lets me know what will be done to fix the problems. Of the 1207 boards installed, 108 of them have problems.

Stay tuned.

Exotics are exotics. The splits described will vary with the Grade.
But wait,,,
The splits developing is a drying defect.
