 Post subject: direction of floor

what could happen if you lay some new floor over the old floor in the same direction i just bought my hardwood and would hate to run it the other direction could someone let me know what might happen

The new floor could delelope excessive gaps. Both floors would move in the same direction but probably not at the same rate. Best to either run at 90 deg. to existing or remove existing floor.

the old floors have been down since the 60s would there be a chance in them moving alot or are you talking about weather change making them move

I would drop the idea of the same direction or do as Gary notes. Also adding 3/8" or 1/2" plywood over the old can allow you to install the same direction.
