I just purchased Elm flooring that was stored in a covered outbuilding at the lumbar yard. Many of the pieces have dirt caked on the ends.

I'd like to clean the dirt off before I install and apply the sealer. Anyone know what I should do?

Is there a cleaner I should use or should I just count on sanding it off?

Thanks!

If dirt is in the surface , it will sand off .if there is mud on the boards or some kind of build up that will prevent the tung and groove from going together, then use a good stiff brush and brush the sides of the boards clean. No cleaner should be needed and water of any kind should be avoided.
