This is my first post, if it is out of place I apologize.

My wife and I are currently building a house. We originally wanted reclaimed barnwood flooring. But after seeing a price tag of $7.50/ft we quickly changed directions.

So we have started looking at #2 common 7” red oak solid flooring. This can be bought fairly cheap online if you search hard enough. So it will fall in our budget. Searching online doesn’t offer much for pictures of this product after its finished.

We like the rustic look. I’m just not sure how rustic we can make this appear. If anybody has pictures of their floor we would love to see them.

Thanks

Manufacturers will usually send you small sample pieces.

I have a sample piece. But it’s so small, it’s hard to make a decision based off of samples. I tried to buy one bundle of flooring from a company and the shipping was going to cost $118 alone. Because it has to come to me freight. So I’d really like to see the finished product.

Thanks

Is your plan to buy the flooring prefinished? If so, then buy a larger piece of unfinished wood and get some stain and polyurethane and make some samples yourself. What kind of color and finish do you want? Another option is to go to a flooring store and look at the finished samples they have......they will be large enough.

7" wide solid?

Good candidate for cupping. But it it's the rustic look you're after, you could always gap it, like the older colonial home look.

If I could find someone local that sells the #2 common I would buy a bundle and install to a piece of subfloor I have in the garage and finish it. The issue is nobody in my area stocks it. And I would have to pay $118 plus the cost/sq ft to have it shipped.

I am planning on buying the floor unfinished. Will it cup? Maybe 7” isn’t what I am looking for. What is your opinion on 5 or 6” as far as cupping?
