Does engineered hardwood flooring add to the value of a house? I know laminate doesnt... If it does is it the same/less than solid hardwood?

Yes, it adds value. Engineered is mainly made just for installing over concrete, so if you have wood substrate, then go for a solid.

3 strip floating engineered products are often looked upon as being as bad as Laminate. If you are looking at adding value, I think you need to be particular about the kind and quality of engineered flooring.

Hi everyone... another "newbie" here. I am currently looking for the Kahr's 3 strip product (I appreciate all of the pro's comments here!). We are going to install this in a bedroom as a DIY project first (more to come later!) I am concerned tho, about the comments that a floating floor does NOT add any more value to your home than a laminate product? How can that be? It's still a hardwood floor.... any more comments, please?

Keep in mind that this is Andrew's opinion and it may be true, in his area. Different home improvements will add value according to local preferences and tastes. What's true in Boise may not work in New York. But Andrew has a point, that floating 3strip wood floors resemble laminates so much (or visa versa) that it affects the floors perceived quality and value. Let's face it, when laminates came on the scene, they tried to look like the real thing; a 3strip wood floor. And in doing so, brought the perceived value of that product down. Bottom line, in most regions of the country, a solid 3/4" wood floor will be perceived as being "better" and of more value by the general public than most engineered wood floors. Right or wrong, this is the way it is.
