This will call for extreme measures. He gets no more pork chops and gravy biscuits until he gets this fixed.

That's what the wife does to me  .

Another question if you can handle one more. In front of our doorway we had installed a little "foyer" of hardwood before when we had carpet. This was glued directly to the concrete but with no prep to the floor. Once again we plead ignorance-lol

Anyway, when we were ripping everything up including the hardwood in front of the door it was a PAIN to get up. It also pulled up chunks of the concrete subfloor with it when it was pryed up. Does this happen regardless or is there something you can do to prevent that from happening if you are gluing it straight to the subfloor? Does the "waterproof membrane" that you mentioned using help to prevent this also?

The MVP would not change anything there.

Those chunks are probably where the carpet tack-strips were nailed in and the glue pulled out those chunks. Try using a stiff blade putty knife or a wide 5in1 painters tool held on a low angle along the perimeter.

I was wondering if roofing paper isn't considered a "waterproof" barrier then why do we put it on our roofs as one or is that the real reason for using it on our roofs? My husband was asking about this after he read the thread last night and I wondered the same so I'm here asking.

Your shingles are waterproof. The roofing felt resists moisture, enough to bead the water, down the pitch of a roof.

Moisture from rain, is much different then moisture vapor emissions emitted from concrete.

Vapors cannot be seen. Vapor movement are effected by pressure. Water, by gravity.

Perry is correct, felt is not a barrier its a retarder, it only slows vapor transmission doesnt elimante it at all. I have seen plenty of cupped floors with felt as an underlayment if you subfloor has a moisture problem than felt is not the cure.
