Are there any issues specific to elm that I should be aware of? I'm going to attempt to self install, sand, and finish.

We'd like to use a dark stain, to get a look similar to this with a bit of variation from dark to light with the grain:



We'll need to have a stain made up, I've never done this any suggestions? We're using Osmo finish on top of that.
