Is it possible or even advisable to lay a floating floor on the diagonal? I am looking at Bruce Coastal Woodlands 1/2 inch Maple. My understanding is that it can be installed as a float with the boards glued to each other. My condo is on a ground level slab. Most of the walls are diagonal so there will be a lot of diagonal cutting on the ends of boards no matter what direction the boards go.

Assuming I will have the requisite moisture barrier (plastic) and underlayment, how would one start the first few rows? Do you need to have the first boards parallel to a wall in order to have something to push against when putting the boards together? Or is there some way to start the first row(s) in the middle of the room and work outward?

I will not be doing this myself - but I don't want to ask the impossible (or near impossible) of the installation crew.

Thanks for your opinions.

Coastal Woodlands has been discontinued. In my experience the only way to get a floating diagonal going is to secure some starter scrap boards to the subfloor with tapcons or concrete cut nails. Other products may be easier or ones that engage easily without having to beat together.

Not discontinued. Bad sales rep information
