I forgot to ask how many 2" staples I will need to install about 480-500 sq feet of 5" Hickory plank using a MIII-FS.

Thanks in advance

A fastener every 6-8 inches. So get out the calculator!

At one per 6 inches, that'll be 2 per linear foot of flooring, and at 5" planks you have 2.4 linear feet per square foot of flooring. So 4.8 fasteners per square foot, times 500 square feet, you're looking at 2400 staples. Of course you'll have to buy the same 5000-pak or 7700-pak that everyone else has to buy, so don't worry about running out...

You forgot to add the 2 fasteners that are close together at the ends of each plank.

A box of 5000 wil do it. I would be nailing about 4inches apart with 5 inch stuff.

Sorry to disagree Chuck. If you staple that brittle Hickory every 4", you are guarenteed to be splitting the tongues often, which is what holds the floor down. Always follow NOFMA nailing schedules which is 8" oc for plank flooring. If you believe you need more holding power, then glue and nail but do not over nail, especially with the M111FS as it is prone to splitting tongues anyway; more so than cleats.
