What type of hardwood flooring would you recommend for high-traffic areas like entryways or kitchens? I'm considering hardwood for its durability and aesthetic appeal, but I'm unsure which specific type would best withstand heavy foot traffic and potential spills or stains. Any insights on the most resilient hardwood options and the maintenance required to keep them in top condition would be greatly appreciated.

A hard wood will be better than a softer wood. Wood is classified with hardness values. One is the Janka hardness scale. This is the value in pounds that it takes to embed a .44" diameter steel ball bearing on half way into the wood. This ranges from about 500 for a fir floor to 3650 for strand bamboo. The high American hardwood used for flooring is Hickory around 1600-1700, as I remember.
What is important about flooring is the finish that is used to protect the surface.
A two part water-based poly-urethane is the most resistant to wear according to some wear tests.
