Gents,

The last part of my hardwood journey has begun, IE, installation of the stairs. Removal of the nose is not an issue, as I have a Crain Toe Kick Saw that does a great job. The problem comes in with measuring and cutting perfectly so that there are no gaps. From the article on this site, it looks very time consuming and exacting. I was wondering if the Wheaton PL200 or Stairtool would help provide a faster, higher-quality installation. If anyone has any words of wisdom, it would be much appreciated, thanks. :?:

Stair jigs can be helpful. I use mine for full treads on boxed in stairscases. I have also used it to install flooring on stairs. The idea is to clamp your floorboards and nosing together and transfer the measurements from the stairs to the floor using the jig. If you can fit the clamped stairs in a slider and make the cuts all at once, thats where you could pick up some time. However, for me, when doing flooring on stairs, I usually cut one board at a time.

I'm on one right now, that the skirts are kicked out at the top,a little on one side, and I have to remember to set my miter on 1ยบ to get a nice tight gap free edge on that side.

Many trips back to the saw, when I forget. Lucky it hasn't been with a stairnose yet! Jinx, Jinx, Jinx!!! Knocking on wood 3 times.
