My contractor delivered 950 sq ft of SELECT quartersawn red oak boards today. They will be installed in 2 weeks.

After inspecting the wood tonight, I am wondering if I should have gone with the "plain sawn" wood (for more character and grain), instead of the "quartersawn". I am hoping I didnt make a costly mistake. The quartersawn wood was more expensive.

Please someone tell me my floors will be beautiful when sanded and finished. I hope there will be some color variation with the boards so they dont look too perfect. I DONT want the pergo look.

Any comments (pros/cons) for quartersawn floors?

Its hard to find a good photo (on line) of a quartersawn red oak finished floor.

Thanks!
Coleen

Red select has enough color. You have made a wise purchase. The variation will be seen in the different grain characteristics of each board.

Plain sawn select would look sloppy next to what you have bought.

Quartersawn oak is going to give you richer and much more sofisticated look than plainsawn, thus adding a touch of class to your room setting.
Let me know if you need any more pictures. I will get you some from our showroom.
