Hi,

I was sent some 3M fine grit pads for burnishing my new floors. I was told to use a high speed buffer. I rented one (1500 RPMs) and attached the pad with the plastic center piece to hold the pad on. Contact is happening with the plastic center pad locking device, not the actual pad, therefore leaving scuff marks and not accomplishing any burnishing. I then tried removing the center locking piece and attaching the pad to the velcro on the machine. At 1500 RPMs, it came flying off in two seconds. What am I doing wrong here??? Is there an attachment or cover for the locking device to prevent scuffing or contact that I should have? Thanks!

The manufacturer specifies a minimum of 800 RPMs in order to heat the oil and create a dull, waxy finish. I need advice on how to avoid contact between the floor and center piece used to hold the pad onto the buffer. Thanks!

My rental shop has never heard of a bonnet. They say a bonnet is another term for the pad itself. I really appreciate any advice!

PS- How does any pad, of any type, work with a high speed buffer that has a plastic center piece to fix the pad to the rotary wheel? Wouldn't everyone face the same problem I am facing....the plastic center piece makes contact with the wood floor- not the pad. I have now been to three shops that rent equipmentand of the high speed buffers work the same way...with a plastic piece in the center. Won't this always ruin wood floors?

you need a white pad to go under your 3m pad, it should have a hole in the center- or one that is partially cut and you finish cutting the hole. some rental stores dont have a clue - home despot have them in there rental area. justin
