We are going to install stranded bamboo over a plywood subfloor. Previously on the floor was parquet that was a glue down install. We are going to do a glue down with the bamboo as well.

The removal of the floor went pretty easily, and before we start to scrape the floor, I wanted to get some input as to how much glue we should actually remove. So the first picture here is this.

As you can see around the vent there is all the white stuff. I'm pretty sure all that needs to be scraped up and removed right?

What about this image?

See the little spots of grey? I think? that is glue and do I need to remove every spot of that? It's very flat and most came off with the parquet.

I guess what I'm trying to ask is, exactly how much glue do I need to remove from this subfloor? Do I need to be concerned about every little glue spot, or just focus on the largely white areas with a lot of glue.

Thanks for the help!

You had better use an edger and 16 grit paper to remove any loose spots. The old glue seems not to have adhered very well. Purchase extra sandpaper so you don't run out if the glue starts to plug the paper since the heat from abrasion tends to melt the glue and it can stick to the sand paper. When you get to bare wood you will have a good surface for the new glue to stick.

Thanks Pete. What if we were to do a nail down install? (Not sure how feasible that is with stranded bamboo, but that's another topic). Do we need to worry about removing every spot of glue or just ensure that its flat with a nail down?

Flat is good. It may help to use aqua bar paper so that the T&G slides together easily.
