We recently had our wood floors repaired and refinished. We are selling this house and we close in 2 weeks. The floor is American Cherry and we were told by the refinisher that it is extremely photosensitive. We had to put the furniture back into the room but am wondering if this will make a difference in such a short amount of time as far as leaving light areas where the furniture is?

If so I guess our other choice would be to cover the floor completely with kraft paper or something. The last coat of finish went on 5 days ago so if we go that route I want to make sure the paper would have no chance of sticking. Thanks for any guidance anyone has.

Most of the darkening takes place during the 1st 6 months. The most important thing is to not place area rugs on the floors during this time. I believe you should be fine with the furniture on there. Generally, you wait 4 days after last coat before putting furniture on floors and 30 days for area rugs (on oak, etc). I recommend to my customers that for American cherry, American walnut as well as exotics (e.g. Brazilian Cherry, Santos Mahogany) to wait 6 months for area rugs.
