I’ll be replacing carpet in master bedroom with ¾” solid white oak & on stairs with solid oak treads and painted risers.

I want to use a ¾” retro (rabbeted) tread. I’ll be cutting off the nose from the existing tread and then glue & nail the new tread.

Use of a 1 inch solid tread means my rise is out of whack (still within code) on three risers or I would need to demo existing treads and add ½” plywood on stringers (existing treads are made from 2x12’s).

The only suppliers I’ve found are East of the Mississippi; price is attractive but then add shipping costs.

Any ideas? I may need to make my own out of 1 inch material?

Thanks in advance.

Is buying unfinished treads and finishing them yourself an option?

Yes, I want unfinished material. Like I said, 3/4" retro treads are available from suppliers back east but I haven't found any suppliers west of the Rockies? I guess installers aren't worried about leaving the rise out of code or are removing existing tread and passing the cost to the homeowner or they are making their own 3/4" tread.

Seems like such a waste. Anyway, excuse my rant.
Here's what I have and what I want.
