Hi. We are having unfinished red oak flooring installed in our new home and I am having a hard time choosing the color stain. I like red mahogany but am afraid it might look too red. My installer is recommending english chestnut but I think that may be too light. Does anyone have an pictures of these colors to show me? Any input would be greatly appreciated!!

English chestnut has some of the red and brown color and it is fairly dark, darker than i prefer but that is just my opinion. Remember the dark the stain the more it show and it also makes the room feel a lot smaller. They all look good it is mostly your preference.

Thanks for the input. Do you have any pictures of red oak floors stained in different colors?

Duraseal makes a stain fan that should show these colors on red oak. Since the sanding technique will also influence the look of stain on the floor, can you be there for your technician to show you the stains on your floor, the day he starts the job? Then you should be able to decide if you like them straight out of the can, or mixed with each other, or with neutral to lighten them up a bit.....
