I'm considering the installation of floating engineered hardwood planks on a cement slab. This is replacing existing carpet. The room I'm doing is stepped down from the surrounding rooms. The step downs are from tiled floors where the vertical part of the step is in ceramic tile. How would I finish (Trim) the floor against this tile?

There is also a brick fireplace with a stepped up brick hearth. How would you finsh the floor against this brick?

I'm also thinking about changing the baseboard. This base board is thicker than the gap needed against the wall. Should I install it above the flooring to cover the gap? Should I still include the quarter round stripe at base board/floor corner? Should I wait to install the base board until after the floor is installed?

many thanks!

If everything is sound and solid, undercut the masonry in both places, with a diamond blade. You'll need a dust catcher.

OR...

You can buy end cap molding, and install it at the vertical hard surfaces.

Baseboards are going to be your call, as long as the expansion is maintained, and the gap is adequately covered, your good.
