I'm not sure if this is the appropriate forum to post this question in. I'm thinking about installing pre-finished hardwood in my bedroom and their closets. The closets have built-ins that sit on the floor. DO professional installers generally know how to cut underneath built-in to slide the wood under, or do I have to uninstall built-ins before installing the floors. Thanks.

Installing around built-in components is difficult and time consuming. It can be done, but better installation happens before the built-ins. Remove, then replace after flooring is done, and any paint touch-up.

As with any type of work, flooring installers' skill level will vary. Undercutting is a common skill as this done to fit flooring under door jambs, baseboards, etc. As Pete A. said installing around the built-ins may be time consuming and difficult but you need to weigh that against what would be involved in de-installing and then re-installing the built-ins.
