I'm thinking of trying a new product from Canada call "FCS -Canadian Character Red Oak" in 5" wide planks. Here is my concern, it has a semi-gloss 15 coat finish which sounds good untill I consider our two 100 lb. dogs. The other concern is that it has a 5 year warranty. I checked and it is kiln dried.
Last but not least, I'm running this from the patio doors into the kitchen and around the corner into the laundry room- north to south. I have read other posts about layout but shouldn't the planks lay perpedicular to the floor joists. In this case the planks would run parrallel with the patio door if this is the case.
Looking for some tutoring in Minnesota.

Thanks

ANY floor (real wood) will suffer from big dogs unless you get into the really HARD stuff (2,000 plus ) on the Janka scale. However, if your dogs aren't real rowdy, won;t be that big a deal.
Bottom line--If you are worried about getting a little "character" on your floor, either get a laminate OR something already distressed
