Hello first of all and thank you for looking!

I'm new to this forum but it was the first result I had returned in Google. I own a house built in 1925. The Wife and I pulled up any carpet except for one room in the house and the floors in here are very nice and can be refinished with some tender loving care.

It has Red Oak throughout the 1'st floor of the house with thinner older 2 3/8", and then in the kitchen it has thicker 2 3/8" x 3/4" what looks to be either Red Oak Select or White Oak Select. The 2nd floor has all Red Oak Select 2 3/8' x 3/4'.

In the Kitchen there was plywood nailed down I'm guessing sometime in the 70s right over top of the hardwood floor and then Linoleum over top of that. I tore up the linoleum and the plywood and loved the floor. I've done carpentry extensively in my life time so I started researching and started refinishing the floor.

My wife wanted to stain the floor to match the Red Oak around the house and at first I said no but then I started noticing that there was a significant amount mind you a lot less then when I started refinishing, of little blackish scratch perhaps marks still left. At that point I told her ok we'll stain it.

I have one where you can see the spots that made me decide to stain it that I was talking about but didn't upload it, tell me if you want me to. I figure this one wont matter to much for what I'm asking here.

I picked a English chestnut oil based min wax wood stain. I stained by hand and everything looks good.

Except a few spots around the fridge and stove area.

Picture of the area I'm concerned with before moving forward with oil based minwax high build Poly on the floor:

My question is this. What should I do right here at this spot? Should I just go ahead and hit that spot with the sander again in those areas and then re-vacuum / tack cloth with mineral spirits / re-vacuum etc. and then hit it with the stain again right there?

I don't know if that is wax or grease or what to be honest and I couldn't see it when I was done refinishing the floor or, sanding it all the way rather.

Thank you for any advice you can offer etc...
