My client has bought Brazillian Teak (prefinished) from LL and is the only wood they found that they like. The problem is that the milling is horrible, so about every third plank is a different height. LL said they would replace with a different shipment, but I fear the same result. Can anyone recommend another manufacturer that has a product that looks similar. It is 3/4 solid. Thanks for any input, I have their whole house torn out and they've been patient, but I feel for them so am trying to resolve the problem asap. Thanks, Ken

Ken, I was going to suggest BR-111, but it looks like they dropped Braz. Teak.

Common problem with Bellawood, I normally do a lot of culling, but sometimes it's not feasable. LL subs out it's milling to various mills, so it's a game of poker as to what you end up with. There's abbreviation letters on the end of the box that they use to identify which mill they used. All I can suggest is make sure the boxes coming in are from a different mill.

Thanks Howard. I'll check the boxs first. Meeting with the client on Sunday, maybe I can talk them into something else, cause it's alot of product to load up, take back, and redeliver. All for the possibility of the same problem. Do you have a manufacturer that you prefer, in a 3/4 solid prefinished? Thanks,Ken

I don't know of one in Braz. Teak, I assume it's out there somewhere. Good possibility that one of LL's other mills will be just fine,( Is that me saying that???)

I like Mullican 3/4, but SP is doing a job with their "Standard Grade", and hating life

Yes...it's Mullican's version of LL grade. ho ho

But wait just a minute...look up NOFMA grading rules on maple and Beech, mine is beech and there is no "standard" grade of beech. Someone shoot me.

Brazilian teak just is not the same as Burmese teak. I think Burmese teak is not avaliable any more is it?

Find a store other than LL. Never had a floor from there that was not mismilled oin at least one way, height differences, different widths or bad finish.

cumaru is extremely unstable and hard to kiln dry properly. Alot of it is quarter sawn to help in the tangential growth but now its getting taller instead of wider so it still a problem. I would highly recommend changing species all together or going to an engineered. Look a scuperia similar look but more stable. Several manufactures have dropped it altogether because even when handled correctly if you let it get too dry it will continue to shrink and shrink and shrink. I still have nighmares about one I sold years ago. Me and two other guys spent all freaking day hand filling cracks so the builder didnt shoot me and the installer. We went above and beyond with checks and humidity controls and the thing still went all to chit.
