What kind of coverage are you guys handling these days? I'm going back into installation on a part time basis and need to consider all the requirements. If I remember back in the day I was getting coverage on $1M but that was mostly a requirement through dealers. I won't be working through them this time round. What sounds like a good number? $500K?

TO me , that sounds like way more money / coverage than most of us really need. However, when I talk to companies about liability coverage, they offer 1m policies. I have paid between 800 to 900 bucks. I personally think 500 k is plenty of coverage.

Talked to my insurance guy today. They start at $400 for 300K then $600 for 500K of coverage.

Sounds enough for me unless others want to chime in.

I carry 2 mil. Don't remember why I did that, prolly because of some place I was subbing for.

I think you should carry enough to rebuild the most expensive house you typically work on.

I carry 600K, most houses we work in are in the 300 - 500K value range.

If you work in apartment buildings 5 million should be minimum.

Its not just the house. If someone gets harmed in some way and it comes back to something that has to do with you, that could easily cost a lot more than a house. Ex: your ripping your last board to pull the wall and it binds, ricochets off the wall and lands in someones eye. How much would you or your insurance company pay for someone losing sight in one eye? Extreme yes but accidents happen all the time even though we are careful.....
