I was thinking yesterday that as a first pass I will try taking some extra nosing that I have and see if I can make a transition out of that. The side which has the groove I will notch out (or put in a rabbet) to fit over the edge of the tile. I will reduce the thickness of the entire piece so the rest can sit on the wood floor. I might need to make a brace that runs in the middle so the middle, in the gap between the two floors can rest on the subfloor.

Could you provide a picture of the tile/wood transition area?

Here it is. I included a piece of the nosing I have in the right corner just to show it.

Can't quite figure the profile of the nosing piece. In order to leave an expansion gap how wide will the last piece of flooring be?

The existing gap is a bit larger than I thought it would be. I think the planks I have are a smidge under 5" which is what threw me off... but right now there is about 17-1/8" from the last board I have until the tile. When I put three more rows in we should be ~2.25" left to cover partial board and gap.

What are the dimensions i.e width and thickness of the nosing piece you want to use?

I certainly don't have to use it... but seemed like an option worth checking out.

Height on step 0.705"
Height of nose 0.805"
Width 3.125"

IF you have the tools it would probably be easier to make your own from a piece of flooring. You could do it on a table saw. A router would be helpful.
Where is the house?

We are in NH.

I have a standard table saw. I purchased a finish blade for this work.

I have a hand held router with a few bits. I don't have a router table / tracks.

Would it be possible to post a sketch of how you envision the flooring piece being cut?

I appreciate all this help by the way.

What is the distance from wall to wall i.e. how long would the transition piece be?
My Sketchup skills are rusty. I can post some pictures of transitions that show the edge 'ramp' bevel that I mentioned. The bottom of the transition would have a rabbet. I live in MA....10 miles south of Boston.....maybe meet half way and take one of the boards and mill it for you?

Sorry for the delay. I got a small injury a week or so ago so the work has been put on hold. I hope to get back to it in a week or two.

No need to apologize to us. Hopefully nothing too serious.

It would be better to use a combination blade if you are going to do any ripping with the table saw. Table saws can be vicious. Be careful!
