We moved into our new build in December 2016 and have Mohawk Hickory Charcoal Engineered Hardwood Flooring. Any ideas why the finish would be peeling? It's predominantly in the cracks of the floor but it also is visible on the actual board.

We had a couple boards replaced already and the man who came did make note that it seemed like the floor was flaking. They mentioned it could be a milling issue.

We have sent the pictures to the company, but I just kind of want a heads up of what to expect their response to be.

I'm having trouble attaching images but I will try.

Looks to me like it's mainly the high spots of the extreme hand scraping are taking on wear. Bad design, like the high spots should have been hit with a sander a little bit. I don't see any true flaking off of finish.

I would file a claim and see if they will pay to have it screened and refinished.

Update - the flooring company who installed the floor came out today and agreed that this is a manufacturer issue, not an installation issue. He took pictures and noticed the marks are not in high traffic areas, but rather sporadically all over. They will be filing a claim with the manufacturer and we will go from there.

We were told an independent inspector will come out and do multiple tests and will probably be here around an hour. What tests will they do? What can we expect?

We are hoping since it’s more than 20 boards they will replace the entire floor. Does anyone have experience with a manufacturer agreeing to replace an entire floor vs. the damaged boards?
