I'm a DIY'er getting ready to nail on some 5/8 inch engineered hardwood flooring. My question is, I pulled up the carpet that covers my 5/8 inch plywood subfloor (which is about two feet over grade) and the subfloor was pretty damp. It's drying pretty quick, but should I worry?
Is this typical?

Appreciate any help!

Can't say it is typical.

What does your moisture meter read, when you poke the subfloor?

Is the crawl space covered with plastic, moisture barrier?

Thanks for your response, Floorguy!

There is no moisture barrier covering the earth that is three feet under the subfloor, so I guess I should put one in?
The earth is fairly dry down there, but we just came through our wettest winter on record for southern California, so maybe that had something to do with it. There's a down spout from the roof near that corner of the house which I could redirect some too.

I haven't taken a moisture reading in the floor yet--are there specific numbers I should watch out for when I get to that?

Thanks again--this message board has been a great help.
