Hello everyone. I am renting a house with bamboo floors in the living room and recently they started turning a dark brown color. The landlord determined the AC unit was leaking underneath of the hardwood floors. The AC unit has been fixed but I was worried about mold growing underneath all of the wet flooring. It was almost half the living room floors were wet. The landlord tells me bamboo cannot grow mold and that the floors will dry and cause no further problems. However I must mention that when we moved in one area of the flooring is bowed upwards near the laundry room I am assuming this is from a previous water problem. The landlord denies that this is what the floor bowing is from. I have a brand new baby and I am concerned about mold underneath these old floors that we cannot see. Can someone give me some information about if it could be mold under the flooring since it was so wet from the leak or should I not be concerned?

Sorry, bamboo will mold. It is a grass and when wet, or damp it will be susceptible to microbes breaking it down. Over 19% moisture content is bad. Dry it out as soon as possible. You may not see mold since it will be on the bottom of the boards, but it will mold if it stays wet.

As for your landlord - Request in writing that he provide assurance the floor is properly dried and free from mold. Tell him its for your content insurance and you need to get this from him in writing. If he refuses to provide anything in writing then you need to escalate, or move :( I wouldn't take risks living with mold
