This floor was a nightmare. It had different widths, and if you were not paying attention and taking A LOT of extra time, you would get gaps going. I learned to cheat the gap, so it didn't look big along one side, but split the differnce so it had tiny gaps on each side. Did I say total nightmare!!

Without proper care, that floor's gonna look like crap very soon because:
1) it's very light in color. Most dirt is dark. Dirt in cracks and bevels
2) They will want to damp mop it. Always do. EI: wet, dirty water being mopped into light colored floor's bevels and gaps.
3) They think it wears like a hardwood, till all the denting begins.

Gary makes some scary points about light colored floors!! Would the same apply to hardwood or are these bamboo problems? Would it help at all if a light hardwood floor had square ends and edges rather than micro-bevels, etc. as most of them do?

Applies to most light colored wood floors but I have found so many folks THINK bamboo is very hard and can take the punishment they dish out. The FACT is most bamboo flooring is SOFTER than red oak and due to it's very uniform appearance (maple is similar), scratches and dents show more. Square edged floors do help IMO with the dirt between the boards problem. Like ALL light colored floors, MORE maintenance is required to keep looking good.
