Had custom house built and floors finished about 6 weeks ago. Here is the issue we had the floor guys sand off first job and re-do (there were hairs, footprints and dust all in the floors). We have 5inch red oak with satin finished. The floor guys did not impress me from the get go. We FINALLY got the floor to our satisfaction but>.>>> it scratches with everything. I have a huge scratch from vaccuuming yesterday and i checked the vac there was nothing stuck in it.

It appears the ICI poly topcoat they used is not hardening. At this point I am ready to have them stripped and start over. Suggestions??

Ask for an inspection by the finish manufacturer's representative. I have not heard of ICI. I only use pro finishes supplied by my local flooring distributors. If I have a problem with the finish, I will request an inspection. It's only been needed a few times in my career but it's nice to have my back covered by the distributor and manufacturer.

ICI is similar to Sherwin-Williams. I don't know of any flooring guys buying their finish at ICI stores where I live. They do a good job of mixing stains for me but I know nothing about their poly's.

You should check the bottom of your vacuum and see if there are beater bars attached to the brush. Beater bars are plastic ribs which help the brush pickup lint and dust off of carpet, but which often scratch, dent ,
and chunk out hardwood or laminate floors.
