Hello,
I am new to the message board. Hopefully, I am posting this message in the right place.
My dining room has a site finished white oak strip floor original to our home which is 14 years old.
I want to install a hardwood floor in the adjoinomg living room.
1. Will the installer be able to finish the new flooring to match the existing flooring?
2. Should the old flooring be stripped & refinished when the new site finished floor is installed for a better match?
3. Is it possible to match aprefinished white oak to the existing flooring?

When the builder installed the original dining room floor the molding was installed and then the hardwood.
As I said earlier, the two rooms are adjoined. the molding is continuous from the dining room to the living room.
Will this present an installation problem for the installer?
I can't see how the molding that joins the two rooms can be removed without damaging the existing dining room hardwood.

I have someone coming tomorrow to give me an estimate on this job.
I want to be able to ask the right questions.
Thanks for any answers, advice, information you can provide to me.

1) That's a big maybe. Usually on a floor that is that old, hoping for an exact match is wishful thinking. I'd say most likely not.
2) Yes.
3) Depends on your definition of "match". IMO, no. Site finished floors look different than factory finished floors.

That will be for the installer to figure out when he sees it.
