Hey!
We just bought a home in October of last year. The entire downstairs has refinished hardwood floors except one of the bedrooms. It has a gross old carpet in it. We want to either rip up the carpet and refinish the floors underneath, or just put new carpet down. (we have a baby on the way in August and it is going to be the nursery).
The room is 10 X 11.
We would like to go the cheapest route, but I was told that most hardwood floor refinishers have a $300 minimum charge. That would be about the same price to just put carpet down. Should we just refinish the floor ourselves? Researching online, it doesn't look too difficult to do. Just time consuming. How much would it cost us to do ourselves after renting the sander and buying all of the materials? Would it be worth it, or should we just pay the $300 for the professional to do it? I don't think there is any particular stain on the floor but i've included a picture of the living room to see if you can tell.
Can you tell what kind of wood this is? and can you tell if there is a stain on it? Thanks!!

You'd be lucky to do it yourself for under 300 bucks. The difference wouldn't be worth the chance of wrecking the floor, which most first timers do.If you can get it professionally done for 300,better jump on it.
