no finish is going to dry rough by simply being a product.

its the prep that goes into the floor and how finish is applied..there is nothing indicative except for improper prep and/or not enough coatings.

it's possible as a single component finish it is thinner bodied therefore would most likely require 4 coats for a true and smooth finish and appearance.

I have found 3 coats of Waterbase is never quite enough despite the finish used

the floor will look dry despite fine sanding..buffing,vacuuming and tacking coatings..grain is accentuated..

do the 4th and voila..perfect.

do the recoat and you will be fine

I was remembering a post from some months ago, that may apply to this one:

I need some clarification. I have a five year old water based finish that I want screened and recoated. One guy says he can only screen if it's oil-based finish. If it's water-based, he can only buff it. Apparently because fiber or metal screening pad may be too aggressive for the latex-based.

I answered that with:

There's a tendency to put water-based on too thin when people are first learning to use it. I'm thinking that the first guy may have encountered some water jobs where he cut through a badly-applied finish, and he decided he wouldn't risk that again.

I'm getting the feeling that the floor company that's telling the customer that rough is 'just how it is' with water-based may be a company that doesn't want to risk any abrasives on the coats. They don't put it on thick enough, so they know they might cut through. Buffing it with a maroon pad is not going to smooth out the coats.

You wouldn't need two coats of street shoe on your floor. One coat on top of what you have will be fine--provided someone cuts the existing with 180 to 240 sandpaper discs.

I am now experiencing the exact same rough, grainy issue, on newly refinished floors, which I noticed immediately when walking barefooted. How did you finally resolve it?

Why are you changing brands?
Hace another coat of the Avenue put on. Then the Arboritec people will not be let off free if you have any problems.
