I have stripped and sanded the floor in this room and I am now down to bare wood. Do you think I should try to match the beams and trim with the floor stain? Would a darker color look good with the existing trim? We have decided we dont want to go any lighter than the beams and trim. This is my first refinish job and figured I would get some advice. I know in the end it is a preference in what we prefer, but I didnt know if a dark color would look good or if we needed to stick with the trim color. Thanks

Someone told me this was a pine floor(I dont know otherwise so I assume he knows what he is talking about). I was told this was an addition put on around 1955. What is your advice on to use water or oil based urethane and stain . Thanks for the help.

The only thing I can see in these pictures that the trim and the floor have in common is that they are both wood. If you try to match the color of the flooring to the trim you will detract from the beauty of the wood work. You want to compliment the trim by not matching it. Going darker with the floor will make what appears to already be a dark room even darker.

Just out of curiosity what kind of furniture are you planning to put in this room?

We have a chocolate brown couch and love seat. We had thought about using the minwax stain gunstock.

Gunstock is a nice color. Are you planning on painting the walls a different color?
