Hey Guys,
I've been installing all types of flooring for 22 yrs now, but I've never sanded and refiinished one. Now, my uncle wants his entire house done (1680 sf).

It's an old house (about 60-70 years old) and the original finish was the only finish that was ever applied. Most of the floor has been abraded down to bare wood (no finish at all) with the exception of some existing finish around the perimeter and where a couple of area rugs used to be in the living room and one bedroom.

Since most of the floor no longer has finish on it, do I need to start sanding with a 24 grit or can I jump up to the 80 grit?

Are there any pitfalls I should look for on a floor this old and mistreated?

Any help would be appreciated,
James

My experience would suggest that you start with a 36 or 40 and work your way up.

Ya, if the floor is in reasonable condition, start with 40 grit, you will never get a good surface starting at 80, unless you have a LOT of time on your hands.
