Thanks for the sticky note. I should have looked before posting. My bad.

My problem is that the particle board underlayment is glued and nailed to the subfloor and there is no easy way to take it off. I have had to remove (and replace) some of the particle board because of dog urine - oh the joy of finding this out after we bought the place - and it wasn't easy. I can't see doing this to all 1400 sq ft.

Do I have any other options?

Halfgut.

Halfgut,

We are ripping out our silly particleboard underlayment as well, only I have no canine issues to deal with. There is a serious demo tool called the Demo Dawg that can really help with underlaayment removal. I bought one, and this thing is a quality tool. My particleboard underlayment is being ripped out in a few weeks, and I'll share any tips, problems etc with you as the job progresses.

Oh boy. We replaced the underlayment in the first bedroom today. I think an IRS audit would be more enjoyable. But, we spent extra time, OSB & PL400 w/ screws into the joists. Feels solid as a rock.
