I guess many of you have heard that Pergo is going to sell hardwood. So now when a person says they have Pergo, you may have to think about that some.

I wonder who is manufacturing it for them?

Its going to be at Lowes.

Wood will always be wood and Pergo will always be Pergo, so those who buy wood from them and call it Pergo are ripping themselves off. Real wood will always look, feel, smell and comfort better than the fake stuff.

Aw well Artisian everyone is doing it. Could be worse and buy some wood from a carpet manufacture eh?

Maybe it will be some nice stuff to compete with the "B" people at HD. I just want to know who is making it for them or is it their own.

Well it is nice to see more competition between those "big box stores", it is good for the weekend warrior, but I will still stick with the wood distributors, and no, not carpet too! That's against the rules, isn't it?

anyway, no idea who produces it though.

Being diversified, has helped me make the leap away from retail installations, where the retailer dictates my wages and when I work.

Being able to install more then one type of flooring, makes you worth more monetary compensation. You sure are not sitting around waiting for that next phone call for you to install wood.

If someone wants carpet installed, I can do that. Laminate, I can do that. Ceramic tile or stone, I can do that. Wood, I can do that.

Being diversified has kept me from starving, when I refused to work for retailers anymore. It has been the best decision in my installation career.

Weren't you going to do some work for Lumber Liquidators?

As far as this Pergo hardwood is concerned, it looks to be a tough sell if they're looking at hardwood floor buyers. The name Pergo has been branded BIG TIME...

but....I could be wrong--watch the page views on this thread explode

The key words for LL in the sentence is "going to"

Not after being called to inspect some of that stuff.

Well to the floorguy, I'm in Jersey, only do hardwood installs and finishing, no FAKE WOOD, tile, carpet, or anything else, and have to schedule work 2 months in advance, Not waiting for the phone to ring, not waiting to be subbed out, and not "going to" work for LL, You need a job? :?

Depends on how much work, you need done in Central Texas.

How much do you have in the budget for installation.
Everything here is over concrete.

I was talking about right after burning the retail installer bridge.
I do more wood installations, now then other types of flooring.

I too have things that are penciled in, 2 months out, but it isn't packed without a day off, thank god, or I'd have to raise my prices if it were.(that's the sign)

I am busier now then right after I leaped from the retailers 5 years ago, and more profitable then I have ever been.

You and I Perry. I know we both worked for similar type retailers going back about the same time period. It wasn't long ago $1.25 a square foot for labor was considered "good" Or at least I had no idea what a good going rate should have been.

I remember doing a gluedown parquet floor in '96 for .75 square foot but I didn't know any better--neither did others that did work for the same guy. It wouldn't suprise me if he still pays that rate. I keep hearing stories that he can't keep installers--NO WONDER.

I couldn't imagine working for those guys any more. It's always one headache after another, but a good sales person can make the difference in how smooth the job goes. Rare in this business.

Is it time for an installer chat area?

I know this post ic a couple of months old, has anyone viewed any of this Pergo Hardwood or have any other opinions about it? I'm looking for something for a small project and saw this yesterday at Lowes.

Thanks

Randy
